SWITZERLAND - CANCELLED due to
impending snow storm!
by Joanna Murray-Smith
We're kicking off the new year, and the new decade, with a nifty little suspense yarn featuring the celebrated author Patricia Highsmith -- but, in the first of many intriguing twists of this play, Highsmith is not the writer of this tale, but a character in it.
After a decades-long career that spanned 22 novels (including Strangers on a Train and The Talented Mr. Ripley series), 8 short story collections, and even a picture book, plus numerous awards (named a candidate for the Noble Prize in Literature), the irascible author has retired to SWITZERLAND, where she intends to live out her life in peace and quiet among her extensive collection of guns and knives.
Her publisher has other ideas. One more Ripley book, they argue, will cement Highsmith's place in the literary canon. Although the last representative they sent to persuade her is still recovering (his reports that she held a knife to his throat are almost certainly exaggerated) another strange young man has just arrived at the door to try again -- and his career depends on her "yes."
How far are they each willing to go to win the argument? And what do each of them really want? In classic Highsmith style, wheels spin within wheels and nothing is quite as it seems in Jonna Murray-Smith's "truly great†" comic suspense drama SWITZERLAND starring Lora Lee Ecobelli* as Patricia Highsmith and David Smilow* as her gentleman caller.
